EÕÜL x BAFF x Riigikohus: Understanding Democracies – The U.S. and Estonian Civil Law systems

6. March kell 18:00 - 20:00

🇪🇪⚖️🇺🇸 In collaboration with the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation (BAFF), we’re bringing you another unique event to gain insights into the key differences and parallels between the U.S. and Estonian legal systems.

Join us for an insightful discussion comparing the U.S. and Estonian legal systems! How do contract and tort law (common law) compare to Estonia’s law of obligations (civil law)? Why do Estonian damages often amount to thousands of euros, while in the U.S. they can reach millions, as seen in the famous Liebeck v. McDonald’s case?🍔💸

Take part in this intriguing discussion with:

🗣️ Villu Kõve, Chairman of the Supreme Court of Estonia since 2019 and a key figure in shaping Estonia’s legal system.

🗣️ Brian C. Kalt is a legal scholar and professor at Michigan State University College of Law. He holds a J.D. from Yale and an A.B. from the University of Michigan. His work offers valuable insights into the U.S. legal system, including its common law traditions and constitutional governance.

📍 Location: Supreme Court of Estonia (Lossi tn 17, Tartu)

📅 Date & Time: 06.03.2025, 18:00
