The Estonian Law Students\u2019 Union is honored to host a landmark event with Gabrielle Cowan, the United States Deputy Chief of Mission, and dr. Julia Laffranque, a judge of the administrative law chamber at the Supreme Court of Estonia.<\/span><\/p>\n

We invite you to join us on the 16th of April at the Supreme Court of Estonia to explore the similarities and differences of both countries judicial systems and professions. Additionally, judge Laffranque and Deputy Chief of Mission Cowan will introduce their daily work and all the possible doors a law degree can open.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gabrielle Cowan, currently Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tallinn, has held diplomatic roles in Paris and across several U.S. Embassies over her 20-year career. She has extensive experience in security matters, including counterterrorism and Arctic policy. Before her diplomatic career, she practiced law at the Treasury and State Departments and clerked for a Federal District Court judge. She holds degrees from Duke University and the University of Tennessee.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Dr. Julia Laffranque is a renowned Estonian legal scholar and judge, who is currently serving as a judge at the Supreme Court of Estonia\u2019s Administrative Law Chamber. She has also served as a judge at the European Court of Human Rights from 2011 to 2020. Additionally, she holds positions on various committees and boards within the European Union, such as the Scientific Committee of the Fundamental Rights Agency.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
